Preliminary discussions of a food policy council with community members.
Dec. 2009
Inaugural meeting of the food policy council general assembly. Over 30 members in attendance. Reviewed the state of food security and agriculture in Santa Barbara County. Also discussed lessons learned and successes of other food policy councils.
March 2010
2nd meeting of the food policy council general assembly. Discussed short and long term goals of council.
April 2010
3rd meeting of the food policy council general assembly. Addressed council structure, decision-making procedures, and subcommittees. Presentation by Professor David Cleveland's research team "Potential to Localize Food System in Santa Barbara County."
May 2010
4th meeting of the food policy council general assembly. Discussed results of online voting process, including nominations for the steering committee.
Summer 2010
Steering committee met over the summer to write a mission for the food policy council, determine decision-making structure, and council vision.
September 2010
Steering committee and general assembly meet to approve mission statement and vote on topics for primary implementation.
December 2010
Launch and planning of first council initiative, a Buy Fresh, Buy Local campaign.
